How I Welcome Guests at My Very Own DIY Oscar Party

Not all of us can say we find our names on the list to attend the Oscars. 

So what I like to do is hold an Oscar Party at home with DIY Oscar Themes that channel not only the atmosphere and spirit of the Oscars but showcase any and everything about this annual event. Plus I ask my guests to wear something dressy. 

Creativity is the key. In fact, I consider staging my home for a DIY Oscar Party to be a valuable part of my self-care and wellness decor. There are so many creative things that can be added to a DIY Oscar Party List. I like to include a variety of surprises for my guests. Here are just a few things I like to do for my guests.

1. I style my home in what I call 

Look-Alike Oscar Decor 

I place a Red Carpet Runner on the floor and run it from my front door all the way to the entrance of my living room where my guests will be gathering to watch the show.

Now, this does not have to be an expensive red carpet runner.  I simply purchase red silky-style red fabric from a local affordable fabric and craft store either online or in my neighborhood and use it like it’s hot. It definitely adds the spark.

 

2. I like to hang the same kind of silky red fabric on a Backdrop stand I have for Photos and create a ” Selfie & Photo-Op” space for my guests to take Selfies and group photos together. 

3. I will even place the latest punky-style color- temporary hair color spray on a table for my guests who feel like they want to channel a look like a Pop Star that we all know as Pink or perhaps another pop culture icon like Cyndi Lauper. Now, creating looks like these may seem like it’s more suitable for The Grammy Awards but it’s all about creativity, individuality and self-expression. If you feel like getting inspiration from both the Grammy Awards and the Oscars to create your look for your own DIY Oscar Party and that works for you, who says you can’t.

4. Best of all for my differently-abled guests, I will feature an Oscar Trunk-Show Display corner with some of the latest adaptive Dress-Attire styles just to kick back and have fun if any of my guests want to try on any dressy clothes to play the part. I include clothing that feature everything from magnetic buttons to side zippers and sensory-friendly clothing and more.  You may ask when do we find time to try-on these clothes while we are watching the Oscars? 

Answer: that’s what commercial breaks are for –  a little dressy fun among friends.

This is also a fun activity for my guests who identify as different genders to try on different styles as well. 

5.. I will even go as far as placing arts & crafts supplies on the corner coffee table with Red &  black construction paper for my guests to create Black bow ties or other Oscar-themed props to stick wherever they want- anywhere from their clothing to their champagne glasses, you name it.
