How I Style My Met Gala Glam like a Self-Made Star Bearing Gifts
Even if you are not an A-Lister who is to say any one of us cannot be a Self-Made A-Lister or a Self-Made Star that’s all glammed up to attend inclusive events. I am not afraid to strut outside in my own self-made inclusive Met Gala Glam outfit on any given day. Of course, it’s even nicer when I wear it on special days like Mother’s Day or on the weekends when I visit a friend or family event.Â
Whether you are a Mom or not, if you ever want to glam yourself or your Mom like a star be sure to be creative with as many ideas that come to mind.Â
My DIY MET GALA GLAM MAKE-OVER TIPS
I am one person who likes to say yes to the dress, especially for important social events that represent inclusivity and diversity. Â Here are my DIY Met Gala Glam Makeover Tips for myself plus friends and family too.

Like I said, if it’s an important inclusive event with a handful of friends and family, I have been known to do a dress rehearsal with friends to bounce ideas off each other. If the event is being held outdoors I generally go with green which captures a relaxed outdoor garden look. Â However, everyone needs to capture what they want when it comes to their look.
Try to utilize individualized styles that are not only best suited to your fashion must-haves or differently-abled needs but also styles that can be applied to a wide variety of inclusive styles for your family member or friend. The time for hiding who you are inside a closet no longer applies. Prepare to be authentic yet unleash what you fantasize about in your fashion and style. This is the time to let all your superpowers for fashion and style out of the closet.
The trick is to individualize and personalize the look and still tell the world a story about your style by keeping the big picture or theme in mind. Â I like to show off a dress and style that brings my family’s culture to life. So whether you represent White, European, Spanish, Â African, or Chinese or any other cultural background or ancestry just be sure to bring your story to life with your style.

This year’s Met Gala dress code is “The Garden of Time.” This gives me inspirational ideas for myself and even ideas for my friends.
Just this week I helped a friend prepare a Met Gala Glam look. I encouraged her to envision herself standing among a Garden of Bamboo trees. She created a red, dressy Asian-style look to represent her  Chinese culture simply by shopping for the look she wanted to achieve in her local Chinatown neighborhood. She loved the outcome.
I also like to be responsible with the kinds of material I select to show off my style. I usually choose sustainable materials. So, be sure to shop keeping the themes of earth-friendly and sustainable materials at the forefront. Think recycle and reuse and be willing to shop at a Thrift Store that features vintage styles or other styles that fit your desired look. especially if you just plan to wear the outfit once to a Gala or twice if you ever wear it to another event. After all, you may not want to be seen in an eye-catching outfit at too many events or people may wonder if that’s the only outfit you have in your closet.Â
I also gave my friend who created a Chinese Cultural look some ideas to add a touch of jewelry with some glam bracelets on sale. Since she wanted to wear a friendship bracelet that incorporated a touch of Indian culture that represents her best friend, I suggested she go with a bracelet that teases onlookers with a little glam and bling.Â
bling.Â

This year I am excited to hear that the New York Met is celebrating the Costume Institute’s Spring Exhibition called “Sleeping Beauties Reawakening Fashion.” It’s said that the exhibition can be viewed all Summer long until September 2nd. Â

The idea of Sleeping Beauties is another great theme that truly inspires me
It gives me a lot of creative ideas for combining the theme of Sleeping Beauties with the Garden Theme to create a look that is as classic as our favorite characters in fairy tales and brings the nostalgia of some of our favorite Disney Princess movies not only to mind but to life.
So whether you are styling yourself, your friends, Â differently-abled individuals, or LGBTQ people in your circle be prepared to use a wide range of ideas for any outfit that truly brings that person’s story to life.Â
Plus if you are planning to attend a party with family or friends, don’t forget to bring a gift that’s a creative glam gift too. Â
Now that I have touched on ideas for outfits that not only reflect the bigger theme but also cultural themes. Here are some ideas for Glam gifts for any get-together especially those with Mom on Mother’s Day or for any other party with friends and family that features a  Met Gala-themed inclusive get-to-gether event.

For Moms with Vision impairments or blindness who may utilize walking canes to get around, I Â love doing a DIY makeover to go from a plain cane to a creative glam-styled cane. I simply use multi-purpose adhesive spray on the cane and apply glitter, all around the cane. Colors can reflect the beauty of a garden or Princess, a special place, cultural colors, or anything meaningful.Â
Be sure to prep the parts of the cane if you do not want to get glitter on every part. For example, I Â place masking tape on the part of the cane that I want to avoid getting glitter on such as the handle.
Here’s my color-theme secret. I Â like to keep colors that remind me of a garden in mind and literally put a visual image of the colors I want to capture on the wall as I work. This is very helpful especially if I am working on a cane which I will gift to someone special as a one-of-a-kind DIY Met Gala-inspired Glam-styled Cane designed by me.Â

I also like to be creative with a wide range of gift ideas bringing together the Met-Gala-inspired theme with personalized and inclusive ideas. For example, if you are giving your gift to someone in the LGBTQ community then certainly keep the Rainbow flag and colors of Pride in mind.Â

For Mom, consider gifting Mom a beautiful Bouquet of flowers in a personalized Glam Vase. Here’s what I like to do. I will select and use simple costume jewelry gemstones from the local craft store but I add a quality 10k 14k or 24k gold pendant. I place the pendant as the center stage piece in the middle of the vase. Then I simply use a glue gun to glue the pendant and gems onto the vase.
Another great personalized gift can be a Glam garbage can. Yes, garbage cans can come to life with a little creativity. Â Again, you can even consider using garbage cans found in a thrift store and help save the planet by reusing, redesigning, and gifting or regifting them. If your friends and family don’t like it they can re-gift it at the next outdoor, Backyard Family Reunion to someone who does. Â After all, we all know the saying that someone else’s garbage is someone else’s treasure. So that’s what I do. No judgment here- especially if you are among family. My family and friends usually want to see what ideas I will decide to do next. So it comes as no surprise to them when I Â create DIY Glam-styled Garbage cans as gifts to bring to events like Summer backyard barbeques with a bottle of red wine. I even add glam-styled gemstones to the bottle of wine with my handy glue gun. Â Glam ideas are truly limitless.
