Look What’s on My Fall Movie Watch List
When you are dressed in your favorite pair of warm, cozy pajamas, have you ever been in the mood for a movie that sends a deeper message that we all should care about. Well, I am always in the mood for movies that exposes or sheds light on a shocking reality or statistic that we may not be fully aware of.

One movie that I have put on my Watch List is a Lifetime original movie on LMN called Taken at A Truck Stop starring Garcelle Beauvais, Marci T House and Sierra Sidwell. It’s the 3rd Installment of the Black Girl Missing Movie Franchise so this movie as well as other Black Girl Missing movies are inspired by true stories. What’s so important about the plot of this movie is that the young teen who is taken at a truck stop has Autism and the plot truly reveals the vulnerability of neurodivergent teens.
For those of you who may not know, Autism is a developmental disorder that presents with challenges in social interaction, communication and repetitive behaviors, however there is a wide spectrum where the severity and symptoms can vary widely among individuals with various levels of abilities. It is estimated that 1 in 36 children will be diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by 2025 and guess what we are here- it’s 2025. ASD is more often diagnosed in boys than girls with the ratio at 4:1. Most children are diagnosed by age 4 but awareness and screening improvements may lead to earlier diagnosis.
Since this movie features a girl with Autism being kidnapped, I have included this in our LookAbility Blog category for Crimes because it’s important to note that statistics show that individuals with disabilities are at least twice as likely to be victims of crime as compared to people without disabilities.
As for this movie, I like to see those that others perceive to be the underdog or an easy target come out on top almost like when we see our favorite football team viewed by others as the underdog but despite all odds they manage to come back and win the Superbowl. So even when someone has a disability, it’s important to remember that many have said- “never underestimate the powers of the handicapped,” and I would add- never underestimate the power of single mothers or parents and caretakers who care for their loved ones.
Now, let’s talk about my Halloween Fall Watchlist. If you’ve got teenagers then the new Disney series called Vampirina: Teenage Vampire looks great for all those Halloween Fang girls and guys. And as you know, they say age ain’t nothing but a number so I’d say you don’t have to be a teenager to enjoy this with the whole family.
Moving right along, I always like to watch the classic Halloween movies starring Jamie Lee Curtis. This never gets old for me with a bowl of healthy popcorn to share with family and friends.
Let’s proceed if you dare.
Other shows from Disney this Fall that may leave you and your family shaking in your Fall boots are a scary long list of movies you can choose to watch if you don’t scare very easily.
There are quite a list of shows and movies that allow you to Pick your Poison according to Disney where they are offering you 31 Nights of Halloween which also airs on Freeform. The scoop on the spooky streets are that this witchy watchlist will give you double features like these:
