How I Do a Gallerista-Style Room Makeover that looks Like It’s All About Me

By Lookability Club Stylist

We have all heard the saying New Year, New You. Well, during a new year I like to do what I would describe as a Gallerista Style makeover within the first few weeks of the new year with select pieces that makes me feel like if it’s person-centered decor that is centered around me. I feel that anyone can create DIY Interior designs that make you feel like it’s not just a room but it’s your safe space after a long hectic day.

Here are some of the ways I achieved the looks that are right for me in different rooms of my home by simply doing DIY Gallerista-style designs in a purposeful manner.

  • I like to create the illusion of an extra window with the use of long natural bamboo-style blinds placed like a tasteful tapestry on a plain wall ( also shown on featured photo above)

  •  I also prefer to capture natural light from windows especially on dark Winter days simply by opting not to use curtains or blinds on select windows. If I am concerned about privacy I have the option of  even bringing the outdoors in by using an artificial faux green hedge placed strategically to promote privacy a few feet from the windows which works better for me than using curtains or drapes especially during the Winter months when we need all the sunlight we can get.

  • I will also select  a prominent wall in my home and switch things up a little by painting it in lighter, brighter tones of green or another favorite color to create a look that feels like it’s really a wall in an Art Gallery flanked by my favorite plants.

  • In addition, this kind of  Gallerista-style look can be created by painting a darker shade of green on a wall of any size and then simply adding a favorite green plant or even utilizing a variety of green plants to complement the look. I will also add or update family photos in frames by showcasing some of my favorite photos or family photos on the wall as well.  The green color tones make me feel like I am meditating in a rainforest when I take a few minutes to sit still and simply do some meditation exercises after a long busy day.

  • I also like using some of my favorite colors like the natural tones of nature with beige and browns. I will achieve the imagery and feel of a natural wooded look simply by using brown shades of accent pillows and throw pillows. For the sensory benefits of neurodiverse family members I will select pillows with a variety of qualities recommended for the neurodiverse community such as interesting  textures and fabrics.

Plus, get ready to make yourself or a family member experience a Pink Person-centered Gallerista-Style makeover that’s all about you- yes you know who.

Before you know it, this becomes contagious. I found myself wanting to help other family members and friends with DIY Design tips so they can also experience something new that truly makes them feel like it’s a new year and new you that’s all about them- yes all about them embracing who they were born to be and never letting anyone else tell them otherwise.

So whether you decide to help one of your kids or your adult child do a DIY Gallerista-style makeover in their room at home or their dorm room or whether you have a family member with a disability who needs to design their room in a supervised apartment or group home, encourage them to use their favorite colors that make them feel like if they are pretty in pink or whatever colors they like that truly make them feel in control and confident throughout the year. Who knows this might be your best year yet not only for you but for all the other people you help with their DIY Decor and designs- Gallerista-style.
