Ever wondered if better self-care could give you and your family an advantages to better health results and  a better chance at early detection of serious health conditions like Cancer. Whether you live a carefree “Ride or Die” lifestyle or not, at some point you may stop to think  about not only your own health but the health of your loved ones and the people you care about.

Many of us may hardly ever stop to think about how challenging it is to access health services until it directly impacts us or someone we care about especially if you or your loved ones ever experience a health emergency and you end up waiting for hours on end in the emergency room just to be able to attempt to find out what is wrong.

I found myself asking these questions especially after losing some of my loved ones to Cancer. Did you know that in the United States alone approximately 5,800 people are diagnosed with Cancer every day? And according to Global Cancer Statistics, the most commonly diagnosed Cancer around the world may surprise some of us.  Globally, there is approximately 2.5 million cases of lung cancer which makes  it the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide, if not among the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the world. For more information on lung cancer screenings visit the American Lung Association website at savedbythescan, org

I was even curious how the rise in cancer compares by gender. Here’s what I found, For women, the most common cancer that continues to rise is Breast followed by Lung and colorectal cancer.  For men, prostate cancer leads the list, followed by lung and colorectal cancers.

I also came across research linking obesity to a higher risk of cancer so this is something to keep in mind when we say we are watching our figure.  Who knew?

Let’s not hesitate to care of our health and don’t put off getting to those medical appointments. It’s time to do you.

Plus, if you think accessing healthcare for you and your family can feel like a hassle for you,  did you know that people with disabilities face challenges in accessing the services they need to help them with early Cancer diagnosis and treatment?

Some of the services that are necessary and helpful to support typical families as well as inclusive families and people with disabilities are services like:

-Transportation

The Corporate Angel Network can provide free travel on corporate jets for patients.

The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery Resource provides free rides to medical treatment appointments driven by volunteers.

The Mercy Medical Angels organization provides ground transportation assisting with gas cards, bus/train tickets and non emergency transportation for those who are eligible.

-Financial Assistance

-Food

Don’t be shy or even be embarrassed about any services you may need like this. Be prepared to ask your doctors and medical team for any services you may need because they can put you in contact with other companies and service providers in your local area who can help you get what you need.
