How I Binge-Watch Dating Shows to Prep for a Date

When it comes to healthy dating tips for myself, I like watching dating shows to prepare for my dates because as a differently-abled person, I like to be prepared with the tools I need for all different kinds of dating scenarios.  So I am obsessed like most of America and the world with dating shows.  In fact, I will jot down neat little notes from each show since we’ve  got quite a few dating shows to watch these days

I like to binge-watch TV or stream shows that I deem to be binge-worthy. The shows that I make time to watch are the Dating Shows that are getting good reviews.

For me, the show has to display an inclusive style whether this is seen in the people, fashion, or anything else.

I like teachable moments that are demonstrated in spontaneous dating dynamics that can be applied to inclusive populations or cultures that can be relatable to differently-abled communities or groups of people from different gender identities. Although every single dating show might not check all the boxes, I always listen carefully and watch the dating interactions to improve my own dating style.

Before I reveal my A-List dating shows that are on my Binge List, here are some useful dating tips that have made their way into my toolbox of dating tools just from watching some of the popular dating shows.

1. Make a good first impression with a smile that sends a message that I am all about kindness.

 2.  create or visit a safe space that feels like a comfortable space that lends itself to a friendly but romantic atmosphere for both of us.

3. Engage in conversation that my date will find interesting like inquiring about fun activities my date loves to do.

4. display a positive attitude and imitate my date’s friendly expressions and positivity whenever possible.

5. Expect to get a second date,  third, fourth, or fifth date, and more plus a rose or some other thoughtful, kind gesture from my date.

Now here are the shows that are on my Binge-watch List:
ABC’s The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Hulu’s Love Island UK, and my number one pick Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum.

What I like most about this show is that it truly represents an inclusive dating show for differently-abled people with Autism Spectrum. This is the show to watch not only on World Autism Acceptance Day on April 2nd but all year round.

The binge is always worth it with the use of my DVR or a streaming device.  I like feeling as if I am getting a crash course in everything related to dating from extravagant dating to casual dating to wine tasting and sampling fine champagne to cat-fighting among women and in-fighting among men.

I jot down strategies on how to avoid these kinds of catfights or in-fighting such as discussing my values for kindness and honesty with anyone I date. Even if my date does not plan to date me exclusively because of reservations about my disability or any other reason,  I still appreciate the honesty of letting me know and not playing games if I am not looking for a player. At least this way it’s up to me to decide whether I am okay with this or whether I simply draw the line.

I think it is so inspiring to come across dates who share some of the same values that I have whether it be family values or honesty.

I do find that Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum has a lot of situations I can relate to not only for myself but because I have other family and friends on the spectrum I care about and if I can offer them any dating tips I never hesitate to provide any insight.

I will say that I love any Behind the Scenes footage, interviews, or events when it comes to dating shows.  For instance, occasionally I have seen Love on the Spectrum Stars featured in special Behind the Scenes Interviews with different hosts ranging from radio hosts to other hosts representing community or educational organizations for Autism.

In fact, coming up this month is an Interview with one of the stars of this show, Kaelynn Partlow online.

Anyone who loves free events or freebies may want to reserve this free event that’s open to the public. Registration info is available on Eventbrite before the event is closed.

I wish I could say I don’t second guess my dating strategies because there is always the expected and the unexpected.

I have found that no amount of Binge-watching dating shows can help me with everything I need to know about dating. For example, I often contemplate how much personal information should I reveal about myself on my first date or a second or third date. For example, when and where is the ideal safe time and space for me to reveal my medical condition or disability especially if I live with an invisible disability.  I question when is the right time to reveal my prosthetic leg or arm or my ostomy bag.

I have had friends tell me I should get these kinds of things out the way upfront so that if my date can’t handle it, then my date can make a quick exit with no hard feelings.

Other friends have suggested I keep it cool and just be my best self and see if there is any chemistry or a real connection that’s truly there and even then it’s my close friends think I should wait at least a few dates before I begin to reveal these kinds of personal things about my life.

I think it is a good idea for me to move slowly. I should simply follow my gut and my instincts when it comes to knowing when is the right time to reveal these kinds of personal things.

It’s fair to say that whenever these dating shows are on if I am not on a date then you’ll find me with my notepad in hand taking down notes and preparing to pull an all-nighter as if I were getting ready for a dating exam.
