There are some people who never shop at the Goodwill Thrift store because they wouldn’t want their friends to see them looking at the clothing racks in the Goodwill store maybe because they prefer to give the appearance that they always shop at high-end stores to keep up with the Joneses’. Yet there are others who value not only the savings but the earth-friendly benefits of sustainable styles in thrift stores.

If you didn’t hear it yet, Goodwill Thrift Store styles made it to the Runway at New York Fashion Week for the first time ever. Apparently Goodwill teamed up with Designer, Evan Hersch whose designs emphasize sustainability yet with a modern flair where he somehow manages to transform thrift store looks into cute couture and upcycled outfits. It’s all part of his Found Opulence Designs. It’s like a win-win situation when I heard that fifteen outfits were to be auctioned off to benefit Goodwill Workforce Development Programs.

Don’t look yet, but this simply inspires me to come up with some of my own DIY Goodwill inspired, upcycled looks. Here’s how I do DIY Goodwill Runway Inspired Styles and then make my way to a local Trunk or Treat Halloween Event.

Once I get my hair done, nails done and pretty much everything done, I can go from looking like a plain Jane to looking like Morticia Addams from the Addams Family all glammed up simply by shopping select pieces or the best pieces I find at the local Goodwill store or any other thrift store. I make sure that I achieve a look that looks like I am ready for a photo shoot.

The outfits and pieces I select must make me look fit so it says that fitness matters  to me and that I am someone who is doing my best to exercise for 30 minutes 5 times a week.

If red is my weakness then I plead guilty, I always fall for red in the Fall from red-toned color highlights like Cherry Cola Red and so much more.

I like to channel red colored dresses like a dangerous red dress and channel the danger that a “Bond Girl” brings. Or I may even put on a more conservative, old fashioned red dress and channel a Handmaid’s Tale Costume but most of the time my “Bond Girl” Look is the winner like red, hot fire that makes me feel like if I can walk through fire.

Plus, anyone can get inspired just like me. It doesn’t matter if you have a medical condition or disability, as long as you have to get up and get dressed everyday, then take a family member or friend with you to go shopping and select the pieces of clothing that you like best. Afterwards, if you want to change things up and change it into an upcycled, adaptive fashion piece you truly love, simply go to a local, affordable seamstress or cleaning store that offers alterations to alter the clothes you select into user-friendly or sensory-friendly styles that are  best suitable for you. Let’s coin a new word to make it all about you and don’t ever think twice about making your fashion and style “You-friendly,” For example, if you need to add any adaptive features like Velcro or magnetic enclosures to replace traditional styled buttons or zippers in order to truly make it your own, just do it and be who you were born to be.

Make your look an extension of your personality and strength as if you were telling the world who you are . Go for bold and daring make-up. For your lipstick, go for that bold black, dark purple or deep red. And for your eye shadow put on smoky grays, red rum colors, rich purples, or vibrant pumpkin-patch colored orange tones.

Once my look is truly done, it’s off to a local Halloween Trunk of Treat Event for me to show off my Ride or Die Style for others to Trunk or Treat if they dare.

I can only show you a peek because my Trunk or Treat look is still in the works but it will capture a little bit of healthier options like fruits for kids and everyone along with chocolates and candy treats in containers in the trunk of my car.

And that’s a wrap for me.
