Why the Book, “Be Your Own Bestie” is like a Love Story to the Bestie Inside of Me

Our next LookAbility Book Club pick is the book called ” Be Your Own Bestie” by Misha Brown.

It’s a No-Nonsense Guide that’s described as being life-changing and reveals its secret sauce the SASS method to readers.

Here’s how I applied this book to my life to begin taking steps to live my best life and change my life for the better while sipping on a healthy tropical drink without even traveling to the tropics.

For me, I saw this book as a powerful reminder that whether you represent a typical person or represent an individual with a disability or differently-abled  person or LGBTQ community or otherwise, you’ve got to remember that you are enough, you are valuable, and it’s other people’s loss if they fail to see the value in you. I would tell myself this everyday and treat myself to my favorite refreshments to remind myself I deserve to be happy regardless of whether or not I’ve got a Bestie who’s truly there for me in thick or thin.

I think being your own bestie also means that you’ve got to trust yourself that you know what’s best for yourself and your life. Don’t be afraid to explore life and go after your dreams like the younger version of yourself again.

Treat yourself to all the affordable things you deserve whether you ever get a Bestie who stays by your side through the good and the bad or not.

So you’ve got to prep yourself to  “Be Your Own Bestie” even if no one else chooses you as their Bestie in life. Choose yourself!  Trust yourself and Treat yourself to your favorite smoothies and everything that life has to offer you. If you don’t choose you and do you -what are the alternatives?  Will you pass up living your best life if you never have a Bestie who is truly in your corner and truly there for you in life?

I say whether you never have a Bestie in your life or on your social media platforms with millions of followers, why give a Bleep about it?

I could not help but think how this book truly helps me affirm what I have always believed about being enough and being the person I was born to be which has become like a mantra for me ever since I joined the Lookability Club.

Also I think that in life most people have an agenda. For example they may have an agenda for you and your life and everything that belongs to you and by the time they are done with you,  don’t be surprised if you have lost sight of the best qualities that make you special or if you have  even suffered losses from all those who were around you simply to use you or to take whatever they could take away from you. That’s why it’s so important not to lose sight of how special you truly are or to lose sight of the best sides of you and the bestie inside of you.

This book has helped me to put what the author Misha Brown refers to as  SASS into practice. I used SASS as my self-help tool to manifest what it means for me to truly- “Be my own Bestie.”

Here’s what the  acronym stands for and how I have put the SASS method  into practice in into my life to “Be my own Bestie.”

S- Self Reflection   – I practice self-reflection every day just as the author recommends. I look and reflect on areas of my life where I can

work on self  improvement whether it means my getting a good night’s sleep or improving my finances.

A- Affirmation-      I tell myself that I am enough, I am somebody and that I am valuable even if no one else sees it.

S- Stand my Ground-  I stand my ground with regard to my self-care, self-love, self-respect and self-preservation financially or otherwise as–

the author has been quoted to say ” You don’t deserved to be walked all over.”

S- Sculpting the Life I want-  I am sculpting and putting into action all of my dreams for my best life everyday no matter how small my steps may appear to be.

Another takeaway is don’t keep waiting for a Bestie that might never come around when you really need them or a Bestie who will never measure up to the Bestie inside of you.  Only you know yourself best so you might as well become your own Bestie even with all your imperfections, unless you were born perfect and you believe you are living the perfect life already.

Let’s put it this way. The lyrics in one of the most popular songs “All of Me” by  John Legend reads, ” Cause All of me loves all of you. Love your curves and all your edges, all your perfect imperfections. Give your all to me, I’ll give my all to you. You’re my end and my beginning. Even when I lose I’m winning.”  Although these lyrics describe a love song or a love story meant for someone who loves someone who says this song cannot be about self-love.

It’s an amazing sight to see self-love displayed. When I got a chance to watch Women’s Olympic figure skating held in Italy, I could see that so many skaters did an amazing job, however one skater named Alysa Liu  seemed to stand out by the way she skated so effortlessly with pure joy. It was like watching her skate with a bestie on ice- the bestie inside of her and the bestie she has discovered throughout her journey in life,  Her journey included a period of retirement several years before. However, the whole world witnessed her become a Gold medalist at 20 years old, dressed in a shimmering gold outfit- her outfit even said she was dressed for the gold she performed when she stood on the podium being as she was awarded a Gold medal for her electrifying performance. For me this made me feel like I witnessed someone who not only knows who she is but who knows the bestie inside of her and what a sight to see how this powerful combination became like her superpower on ice.  This should inspire anyone of us never to be afraid to discover and embrace the bestie inside of you. As for men’s figure skating,, Illia Malinin helped his team win Gold, although he did not achieve his hopes for a Gold medal in the individual figure skating competition when he took a couple falls but it’s a lesson to all of us that even if we fall, we can get up again and do our best again as we work on discovering the bestie inside of us. Once you discover the Bestie inside, you will discover your superpower throughout the process of your self-discovery and self-love.
